Eric Swanson, "Social Capital"
Mr. Swanson is employed locally by Tango and works with church
leaders
around the world who are seeking to love their communities through the good
deeds and good news of Jesus. He is the co-author of The Externally Focused
Church.

Workshops Session I
1. Mobilizing
Volunteers (session I) and Making Group Projects Simple (session
II) Marlene Wilson
Marlene Wilson is an international authority in the field
of volunteer management. More than 250,000 people in
the United States and abroad have attended Marlene's workshops.
She founded and was the first director of the Volunteer and
Information Center of Boulder County, now Volunteer Connection.
Marlene also created the University of Colorado Volunteer Management
Certification program and served as faculty director for 25
years. Marlene has written several books on volunteerism for
churches and non-profit organizations. She also produced a
video library of volunteer workshops from the CU Certification
Program. Marlene is president and owner of Volunteer Management
Associates, a publishing and consulting company. She
serves on several advisory boards and continues to train and
consult on a limited basis.
2. Creating a Healthy Community for Youth Barrett
Dunn and Leisha Connors Bauer
Barrett Dunn is the Health Planner for
Boulder County Public Health, and coordinated the administration
and analysis of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey in November
2003. She has been working with the Youth Risk Behavior Advisory
Group to disseminate the data county-wide, and engage the
community in developing an effective response to the data.Leisha
Conners Bauer is manager of Boulder County Prevention
Connection. Prevention
Connection has emphasized a community based approach in reducing risk behaviors
among youth through a focus on developmental assets and supporting parental skill
development.
3. Elderly Issues in Boulder County Panel with
Judy Nogg from RSVP; Tsunemi Rooney from Safehouse Allliance
for Nonviolence and Mary Longanecker, the Director for
Respite Services at Boulder County Aging Services, who
will also act as moderator.
Judy Nogg is the Development Coordinator
at RSVP which provides many services to isolated seniors and
disabled adults in Boulder County. Tsunemi
Rooney has served
as the Director of Outreach Counseling Services for Boulder
County Safehouse since June 2003 Tsunemi's experience includes
serving as Coordinator of Diversity Outreach for The Counseling
Center in Boulder and maintaining a private psychotherapist
practice. Mary Jane Longanecker currently
serves as the Respite Services Coordinator for Boulder County
Aging Services Division, placing volunteers in the homes of
elderly adults throughout the county and offering information
on other respite resources. She has previously worked with
seniors at an independent housing site and various community
organizations utilizing volunteers.
4. Mentoring - What Exactly
Is It and How Does It Help Laura Kinder and
Annette Taylor
Laura Kinder, Executive Director of Volunteer
Connection of Boulder County, has more than 20 years experience
in the nonprofit sector. From cross-matching blood in an
active hospital in the heart of LA, to developing educational
self-study programs for clinical laboratory professionals, and
significantly expanding the foster care program at the Humane
Society of Boulder Valley, she recognizes the power of volunteerism. Laura
and the Volunteer Connection are involved with the Mentors Matters
program, along withsix other local agencies, with the goal of
recruiting mentors for at-risk youth in Boulder County. Currently,
many mentees are on waiting lists for their mentors, especially
Latino youth.
Annette Taylor was one of the founding board
members of the “I
Have a Dream” Foundation, which was started in Boulder
County in 1990. She served as board president for the first
three years and has been involved with the Foundation in various
capacities since its inception. She was a mentor
to one of the Foundation’s “Dreamers” for six
years In
2001 she received a fellowship through Americorps and served
as Director of Volunteers for IHAD. Her primary initiatives were
to create an infrastructure to support IHAD’s 180 volunteer
tutors and 35 mentors and recruit, train and monitor the efforts
of the Foundation’s volunteers In 2004, Annette joined
the staff of IHAD as Program Director where she oversees the
development and implementation of a comprehensive program that
achieves educational goals for youth. She manages the AmeriCorps
program and the program staff.

through Social Engagement (session II) Vie Thorgren
Dr. Vie Thorgren is the founder and director of the Center for Spirituality at Work in Denver. She
has 33 years professional experience in ministry and community nonprofit
settings. She travels internationally leading retreats and seminars
on spirituality and marketplace issues.

2. Adopt a School Adrian Boykin
Adrian Boykin is the Director of Community Outreach at Calvary Bible Church.
He left his education and training as a speech pathologist to pursue reconciliation
between the Christian Church and Boulder County. Adrian is part of a larger
effort at Calvary that is attempting to utilize their resources to develop
trusted partnerships with local schools and service agencies.
3. Restoring the Soul: Faith and Community Partnerships. How
collaborations work and what are we doing: "A
State of the Soul" Tania Leontov
Tania Leontov is the Project Director of Restoring the Soul:Faith and Communty
Partnerships, as well as the founder and Director of the Buddhist Coalition
for Bodhisattva (service) Activity. She has worked in the nonprofit sector
for over thirty years in many capacities. She co-founded the Boulder-Lhasa
Sister City Project and served as a director and meditation teacher at the
Boulder Shambhala Center for thirteen years.
4. Specific Mentoring Projects: Inviting
Collaborations Robin Carrington
Robin Carrington has been a national trainer and consultant
on mentoring programs for over ten years. She is currently managing,
Project Work Together, a county-wide mentoring program for people transitioning
off welfare (TANF) and back to work. Robin has been involved with Restoring
the Soul since its inception, and finds that sharing one's faith can be a valuable
component of mentoring relationships.
